Empowering kids

Integrating upstream strategies into mainstream curriculum.

Kids often have very little control over chaotic life circumstances and stressful environments. Our vision is kids who feel empowered that they are in control of their internal selves. Kids who are better equipped to be able to recognize emotions (in themselves and in others), better able to self-regulate their choices and behaviors in response to those emotions, ultimately leading to improved academic and health outcomes.

Upstream Thinking

Create a Healthy Tomorrow: stress strategies for children seeks to address the link between stress and health outcomes in both children and adults by providing a STEM-based framework for understanding the physiology of stress, the link between body and brain, and evidence-based practices to mediate the negative effects of stress before they manifest as poor health outcomes.

By the final session he was sitting quietly in the front row, crossed-legs and eyes closed as he practiced his mindful breathing

I followed up with this student in the focus groups.

He spoke about how he gets away from whoever is making him angry and then uses his mindful breathing to keep from getting into fights. The school counselor reports that he no longer has crying fits during class
